Act of Suspicion: Part one. (Working title)

"Forgive me Father, for I have sinned." Father Corwin nodded, the phrase more than familiar from his long tenure in the priesthood. Although confessions were supposed to be confidential, formal, even impersonal, he took a familiar, conversational tone with the man on the other side, seeing as he had a hand in raising him.

"It can't be so bad as to be unforgivable, Virgil. Go on."

"I've come to doubt your faith, Father."

Father Corwin coughed, surprised. "I'm sorry?"

Virgil sighed, shaking his head slowly, knowing the aging priest couldn't see. "So am I, sir. Andrea and Austin are waiting outside, don't make a scene, it would hurt the others too much."

"What are you going to do?"

"We are going to secure and reinforce the northern border of town."

"We haven't needed to secure anything in ages, they wont believe it." This was true of course, the Knights of Saint Philip had blessed and sealed the entire town. The blood of Christ soaked the streets, and each door bore a red "x", ancient wards of a decaying faith.

"I know, Father. I know." With that, Virgil stepped out of the confessional, taking up his sword belt and nodding to the twin knights waiting for him. Father Corwin stepped out, greeted by dual glares from Andrea and Austin. Corwin had known the two, like Virgil, for most of their lives. They were twenty, now, and had been running and fighting the abominations for five years. They were different now, as were all of the living. He started to plead, but stopped, realizing that the twins knew their duty well. A traitor on the inside was worse than the abominations themselves, on the outside.

The group walked quickly and silently, stopping only to pick up a few crosses, stakes, and flasks of holy water from what used to be the churches preschool building. It was closer to a barracks, now.
